Before you decide to lay down hundreds or thousands on your dress, consider making a one of a kind gown on your own.
The wedding cake is a very personal aspect of the wedding that can be easily changed to fit in with the wedding theme and palette. There are so many different methods of icing and decorating, that you can recreate the pattern used on the reception table runners to match the cake. You can do just about anything you want, and in a modern wedding, this leaves you plenty of room for creativity. Here are some unique ideas for great traditional wedding cake alternatives to get you inspired.
For the chocolate lovers out there, this Truffle Cake (found on Snippet and Ink) should do the trick! It’s a great alternative to flat cakes with rounded corners, you can have tiered, towering cake you always wanted with a fun twist. This type of cake also fits in with just about any theme, as the design is minimal and the texture is enough on it’s own. It’s simplicity at it’s best, with an original twist.
For something a little more creative, you can go for a Rice Crispy Treat Cake found on The Knot, or an intricately designed cupcake tiered cake by Cake Creations. How beautiful is that? There is even a traditional top tier for the newlyweds, perfect for setting aside for the one year anniversary! Cupcakes are a great way to give you freedom in the presentation of your “cake”.
Using a creative alternative to the traditional guest book is a great way to make a statement, and tie in your theme and overall wedding style. There are a variety of DIY and creative substitutes for a book, here are some of the best I’ve found. This should be some instant inspiration for your own reception!
Check out this amazing thumb print tree guest book found on Green Wedding Shoes. How clever is that? Nothing is more unique than a fingerprint, and it’s a fun way to get your guests involved. This also makes for a really creative keepsake for all your wedding memories.
I’ve never been more in love than when I saw this abstract, plexiglass shard, chandelier guest book found here. Guests could choose a piece and write their wishes for the newlyweds, and at night this chandelier was illuminated! Each shard is a different color, which makes for a bold and festive mobile that you would want hanging in your house forever. What a great way to keep memories!
The antique typewriter used as a guest book is pretty common these days, but it doesn’t make it any less one of my ultimate favorites. I think its a great way to add a vintage touch, and contributes to your decor more than a simple, traditional book would. It’s also more fun for guests. I love the 1950s style colored ones, such as this one from here; they remind me of Cadillacs!

Yellow is a color that can go many different ways in your palette. It can be the focal point, or it can be a complimentary color. It can be apart of a bold, cool palette, or blend into a warm subtle palette. Here are some color combination ideas for yellow.
Bouquets are the most iconic floral element in a wedding, both the Bridal bouquet and the Bridesmaids’ bouquets. There are plenty of yellow flowers that are much more original and unique than the traditional peonies. They are also much cheaper and budget friendly. I think they make much more of a statement, after all, Sunflowers and Daffodils are just related with the world happiness!
And for the reception, how about a unique take on some classic flowers. Lemons along with yellow lilies and roses work wonderfully together, as seen by these beautiful centerpieces by Yvonne Design! With the branches and the birds, it’s so unique.
Pomanders are a popular trend at the moment, whether they are held by the flower girl, or hung on a post as a decoration lining a path, or on the edge of the chairs at the ceremony. They are often made of a variety of fresh flowers, but you can also make them from tissue paper for longer lasting decor.

When we hear the words “Halloween Wedding” you might think of something horribly tacky, impossibly ridiculous, and something along the lines of distasteful. But that is far from true. Your wedding can be on October 31st, and not be an escapade of slutty nurses and orange and black streamers.
It is common for couples to have their “first time we met” stories based around holidays. Holidays are a cause for social events, parties, and gatherings. This is often where you meet “friends of friends” for the first time, or maybe even be the victim of a friend trying to play cupid. Maybe on the same day, the following year, he proposes! Choosing a day that meant something to you follows in suit with choosing your wedding date. It could be Halloween, and you can get away with it!
Here are some great ideas for Halloween themed weddings, or just autumn and fall weddings in general. Incorporate the season, use it as inspiration! Find elements that are true to the time of year, iconic for the season. Pumpkins may be obvious, but maple leaves, greenery, and seasonal floral can also be used. Gold, cinnamon, spiced beer and other warm details are also reminiscent of the atmosphere.
My favorite Fall Wedding details: Spiced (or pumpkin) Beer, hot cocoa wedding favors, pumpkin ice cream, rich chocolate cakes, hot drinks with cinnamon sticks, baked goods, apple strudel, and those clever cinnamon roll lollipop favors!
