Inspiration Palette #18

Although vintage weddings have long been popular, there are plenty of ways you can balance fun, vintage details with a modern twist. Forget about muted palettes, go for bold colors with striking contrast. Red and Aqua weddings have grown in popularity, especially with rodeo or cowboy type themes. This palette offers a combination of sweet vintage details with some bold and modern twists.

Wedding Cake Topper Trends

From the city chic wedding, to the rustic country wedding, plan every detail to contribute to the overall theme you want for your wedding. Creating an atmosphere is all about the details; whether it’s the decor, the location, or just the cake topper, realizing your wedding day vision is an exciting task.

This year, we’re seeing some new trends in wedding cake toppers, not to mention a twist on some timeless classics. No matter what your wedding theme might be, and no matter what cake topper you might choose, every bride and groom-to-be should remember one thing: make it personalized. After all, without personalization, your cake topper is just a generic item with little meaning. Whether it’s incorporating your wedding colors, using a monogram, or adding your likeness, personalized cake toppers are always “in”.

Monogramming is by far the most popular personalization option for weddings, and has been a long standing tradition that is still holding strong today. Debuting your initials for the first time as a married couple is not only a point of pride, but it can also be incorporated into many details in your reception: none more prominent than your cake topper. Monogram cake toppers are a classic yet modern alternative to the traditional bride and groom “figures”. Easily suited to any type of cake, or cupcake stand, letter initials are a chic and simple cake topper idea for any wedding. Here are just a few examples of fun, modern and personalized wedding cake toppers that suit any theme.

Looking to keep it simple? Try a unique new trend and add a tiny bunting banner to the top of your cake. Personalize it with your initials, last name, or stick to your wedding colors for a fun, sweet, vintage take on the traditional cake topper options. This is a great option for those already looking to use bunting flag banners as decor for their reception, which is another hot trend in weddings this year.

If you like the idea of a bride and groom cake topper, why not go for one with a modern twist? Bird cake toppers are very popular this year, adding a rustic and vintage touch to the traditional cake topper tradition. Personalize them with your wedding’s colors, and even have them made in your own likeness (including suit and tie and birdcage veil!) for a fun and sweet touch.

Despite the wide variety of traditions, beliefs, and preferences, wedding cake toppers are a detail every bride and groom-to-be can enjoy.

Quick Palette #12

Really love the idea of pairing burnt orange and a bold blue. They are complimentary in a whimsy kind of way, and aren’t really bound to any particular season. I was originally inspired by these stunning pair of heels that were dyed specifically to match the wedding’s colors. I’ve featured that wedding, photographed by Stephanie Williams, here and here. This palette is also great when used with some rustic elements or textures, contrasting elegant ones.

Eat Cake, Be Merry!

Just in love with these stunning cake designs from Eat Cake, Be Merry. Wow! The bold patterns like on the retro flower cake is just fantastic. Perfect colors and perfect for spring. I also love how sharp the design of the monogram cake is. They can do everything from clean cut designs, to intricate floral, to modern patterns with a retro feel. I’m just obsessing over their work! Check out their site for more cute cake designs for parties as well.

Creative Wedding Cakes

The wedding cake is a very personal aspect of the wedding that can be easily changed to fit in with the wedding theme and palette. There are so many different methods of icing and decorating, that you can recreate the pattern used on the reception table runners to match the cake. You can do just about anything you want, and in a modern wedding, this leaves you plenty of room for creativity. Here are some unique ideas for great traditional wedding cake alternatives to get you inspired.

For the chocolate lovers out there, this Truffle Cake (found on Snippet and Ink) should do the trick! It’s a great alternative to flat cakes with rounded corners, you can have tiered, towering cake you always wanted with a fun twist. This type of cake also fits in with just about any theme, as the design is minimal and the texture is enough on it’s own. It’s simplicity at it’s best, with an original twist.

Unique Wedding Cake

For something a little more creative, you can go for a Rice Crispy Treat Cake found on The Knot, or an intricately designed cupcake tiered cake by Cake Creations. How beautiful is that? There is even a traditional top tier for the newlyweds, perfect for setting aside for the one year anniversary! Cupcakes are a great way to give you freedom in the presentation of your “cake”.
